More about this scene
A busy market day in the huge square. Leyburn took over from nearby Wensley, after the plague ruined trade there. Now Leyburn is a magnet for tourists - we come to enjoy its old world charms. From the left, we see the great coaching inns, the Golden Lion and the Black Swan. In the centre is the Methodist church (1884), and in the distance St Matthew's church. The garage and its roof tea-garden, centre right, were converted to the tourist information centre and retail shops some four years ago.
