More about this scene
Newton Abbot gained in importance in the 19th century by being a railway town. The Great Western Railway built a workshop here, and two main lines - to Plymouth and Torbay - divided just beyond the station. Most of the architecture is Victorian, including the fine Market Hall in the middle distance, slightly left of centre. The central church has gone, to be replaced by a store.
