None of these buildings survived the 1960s. The one with the clock was Hopkins, a jeweller's shop, but in the early 20th century it had been Liptons, one of the first chain grocers, a forerunner of today's supermarkets. On the left of the picture is The Talbot, built in 1926 on the site of an earlier inn, The Vine.
