More about this scene
The Barbican was built during the reign of Henry VIII. All traffic to Thanet passed under its arches, where a toll was paid. The Admiral Owen pub through the arch was originally a 16th-century inn; it was re-named after Admiral Owen, who destroyed French gunboats off Boulogne in 1840.
