Between them, R H & J Follett and A Symons & Co seem to have had retail business in Colyton sewn up - they sell groceries, boots, hats, dresses and even garden tools.
Cove's London Hotel (centre left) is now the Moorish Wine Bar, and J H Easterbrook's Boot and Shoe Warehouse (left) is now two separate businesses.

Boots the Chemists have now left County Chambers on the opposite corner.
The place also had a Norman earthwork castle, a motte and bailey type; in later years it was a boot and shoe making town, one of several that thrived around Northampton.

The building on the right at the bottom of Pelham Street was soon to be demolished and replaced by Boots the Chemists.
The Boot Hotel is an old coaching inn with a central position. To its left was Café Mona, the place to go for special occasions.
The sign in the top middle of the picture shows Timothy Whites, which was bought out by Boots and closed down in the late 1970s.
On the left are signs for Frisby's Boot Stores - 'Best for Shoes, Best for All'. The adjacent dentist guarantees 'Absolutely Painless Extractions'.
On the left is Oliver's, one of the early chainstores, offering cheap boots and shoes.
All these went in the 1970s and Forbuoys and Boots now occupy their site.
The fifth shop along is Boots, which now occupies three of the shop fronts. On the right the third shop is Clarks.
On the left in this picture are the premises of a high class boot and shoe repairer. Note the advert for Cherry Blossom.

The Crown Hotel and Price & Son, boot and shoe- makers, can be seen. On the right-hand corner is the ironmonger. Further down, Esso Royal Daylight Oil and Calor Gas are advertised.
Boots has moved from its previous location next to Woolworths.
On the left of the cobbled High Street, notably devoid of any traffic, is Edward's Drug Store, which later passed to Boots. The building, in brick and stone, dates from the late 17th century.

Drifut's, on the extreme left, is offering customers coloured sand shoes and baseball boots to augment its traditional old-style repair business.
