More about this scene
The Town Hall, or the Market House as it was formerly known, is first recorded in 1594. P H Fisher's Notes and Recollections of Stroud states that 'to the ground floor of the Market House butter women and dealers in poultry, fruit and vegetables from the country formerly resorted on market days to sell their various commodities.' Opposite the building, across the Shambles, are ancient folding tables, once used by butchers.
