More about this scene
This view shows the contrast between the 1870 terrace on the left and the 1880 terrace on the right. The earlier terrace is plainer with a parapet, and the later one has coved cornices to the slate roofs. There is also more decoration on the 1880 façades. The first floor windows are arched and decorated with different coloured bricks, a style known somewhat grandiosely as 'Constructional Polychromy'.
