More about this scene
The old church had a medieval nave and chancel, and its brick west tower, built around 1800, replaced a medieval timber bell tower. The new church was designed by Edwin Nash, and opened in 1864. It is a rather uninspiring essay in the Decorated Gothic style, built in hard flints with stone dressings. Its tower is crowned by a broach spire. It is well worth a visit though, for the superb monuments have been taken from the old church, and re-erected in the new one. This includes one by William Stanton to Lady Brownlow of about 1700, although it is somewhat obscured by the organ.
