This small settlement to the south of Bakewell lies between Halldale and Darley Dale and, architecturally at least, has little to commend it. But this evocative picture of a Morris Minor saloon and a Triumph TR sports car in day-to-day use - rather than museum pieces - will stir many a memory.

Born and raised in Darley Dale, schooled at County primary on Greenaway Lane, where I met my best friend for life who lived on sydnope hill Two Dales, I fondly remember my Mum sending me on my pony to Mrs Wagstaff the local milkman Alan's mother to get a pint of milk, then to Hayes the Bakers for a loaf of bread, and to Mr Coates the butcher who would kindly give me some bones for my dog, there were trips to Mr ...see more
My father was born at Sydnope Stand the day WW1 broke out, although on his birth cert, it is called Sydnope Towers. I visited about 20 years ago when a young man had just bought it and he showed me round and I went up the tower. I lived in Australia then and now live in New Zealand but I LOVE Derbyshire. I lived at Bridge cottage from 1955 to 1964. Just across the road from the Blacksmiths Arms with the Plough Inn at our rear, and the Nags Head in the middle of the village there was no shortage of pubs for the adults. My grandfather, Walter Walker, used to own the Blacksmith Arms public house in Two Dales which has now been converted into cottages with houses built in what was the garden and orchard. My father was brought up in the pub and left the village when he married my mother, an evacuee from Croydon. As children, my brother and I returned to Two Dales every year for our summer holidays;
