Rabsons Toy Shop

A Memory of Ashford.

I remember Rabsons Toy Shop, those old shops all along that street I think middle row the street was called, also we were told that a ghost was often seen above the Toy shop, not sure if that was true, I was to scared to walk past those shops at night.

I remember at Christmas as a child, there was always a huge and complex Hornby electric train set running round and round in Rabson's window, with an assortment of different trains, stations, sidings, scenery, etc. There was always a crowd of (mainly boys) looking on, transfixed by the movement of the trains. I remember they always had the shop window lit-up and the train set running on the evening of Children's Day, usually when Joe Fagg would walk the streets of Ashford playing his sousaphone, along with a procession of floats, led by Father Christmas (lorries supplied by Faggs Fleet in Whitfield Road).
