Living In Averly

A Memory of Aveley.

Hi, I moved from Stepney, London in 1953 to 27 Ravel Road, Averly, Purfleet, Essex. We were one of the first families to live there. My brothers went in the woods and dug up some turf and brought it back for our garden has we had none like all the other people. The estate was called the Kennigton Estate. It was such a nice place to live, that's when young children could go in the street to play. There used to be an infant school in Bell House Park - I think it was called Dacker infant school it was newly built but has long gone now. I remember going to Running Water woods, which is now called Bell House Woods. There used to be a sweet shop by the woods where we would go. The pub in Usk Road was built about 1959. It was built later - I can remember walking through the park and looking at the cows in the fields which is now a golf course. There also was a mansion in the park owned buy the Leneords, rich family they help to build the secondary school Leneords - that's how it got it name, I loved living there. Now live on Canvey Island, Essex .
