My Memories Of Aveley.

A Memory of Aveley.

I used to visit Aveley a lot with my family as a kid in the 1960's early 70's. My Grandmother and Grandfather lived in 75 Hall Avenue. Lillian Maud Challis and Samuel Joseph Challis. They moved there just after my Mother, Laura Margaret was born in 1935. My uncles Joe and Brian were born later. I remember my Gran and Grandad and my Uncles quite well from when we visited. My grandmother always gave us lemon and barley and a few biscuits. we would go round the recreation ground to play on the swings etc. It was great when we visited when the fair was in the recreation ground as always got took there. My Uncle Brian moved out when he married in about 1968. My Granddad died in the late 60's. I remember Mrs Crow that lived next door to my Gran and she always spoke to us. My mother went to school in Aveley and Bushy Bit as it was called. She has told me what it was like growing up in Aveley especially during the war years. My Grandmother died in 1994 and after my Uncle Joe died in 2013 the house was sold and my Uncle Brian sent my mum a lot of photo's that were still there. My mother died in 2014 and I put some of the photo's on my Facebook. Some are from when my Mother worked at William Thyne's in the 1950's. I had hoped that someone or their relatives would recognise or remember some of the people in them. They are still on my Facebook.
