Growing Up In Burghfield Common
A Memory of Burghfield Common.
We moved to burghfield in 1967, to Abbotts road, me and my sister went to Bland’s school then onto garlands and finally to the Willink. I remember the coal man he always had a black face and I was scared of him ! Also the Wellers fruit and veg van ( I was friends with Susan Weller) they always brought a large wooden tray out packed with sweets to buy ! I was was friends with Valerie child, Pauline sharpe, Vanessa Davis, Andrew Dodd, at school my friends were Mandy Bailey, Tricia wells, Susan Weller.
I remember the summer holidays out all day playing with friends and going for long bike rides, the ice cream man 2 1/2 pence for a screwball or a fab !! When it started to get dark your mum or dad would start calling your name to come in !!! I loved growing up in burghfield common we moved away in 1977 due to my dads job , but always , always will have many fond memories of living there.
