Happy Memories Of Caldicot
A Memory of Caldicot.
My maiden name was Denise Warren, my parents were Albert and Ethel Warren.
I was born in Devauden in 1952 and we moved to Caldicot approx 1958. We lived in Park Rd, Caldicot. I used to have to walk from there to the infant school, which seemed like miles and probably was. I remember walking past the bakers; I could always smell the fresh bread baking. There was a sweet shop near the cross with big bottles of sweets. I had to walk past a cemetery to get to the school, my best friend, Lynette Leighton, and myself would dare each other to walk in among the graves, very scary stuff then! Around about 1959/60 Lynette and myself went to Caldicot Primary school, I'm not sure if it was called Park Rd Primary? The school was painted blue. I was a member of the Brownie's and had a wonderful time as a young kid in Caldicot. My family moved from there to London when I was 9, around 1961. I went back for a visit in 1978 (we'd emigrated to Australia), and I fell in love with the area again. I stayed for a few days in Chepstow and Monmouth, reliving my childhood. It's a beautiful area. Cheers, Denise
