More about this scene
The Wayside Cafe (left) and the George Hotel (centre) face the Queen's Armes Hotrel and Gear's Garage (far right). Apart from earlier royal connections, the Queen's Armes buildings were for a time a school, run by the Congregational minister, the Rev Benjamin Jeanes. His notable pupil in 1820 was Henry Alford (1810-71) who became Dean of Canterbury.
