Chipping Norton, Market Place c.1950

More about this scene
The large open Market Square hints at the importance of this Oxfordshire town as a trading place for the surrounding population in the past. A prominent feature seen here is the Town Hall, ingeniously constructed on land that is far from level in the 19th century. The coach seen in this photograph tells us that even by the 1950s Chipping Norton's attraction had placed it firmly on the tourist trail.
