More about this scene
In 1815, a club was founded in London at the Thatched House Tavern by 42 gentlemen engaged in salt-water yachting. In 1817 the Prince Regent joined the club, and on his ascent to the throne as George IV in 1820, the club became the Royal Yacht Club. The club made its first headquarters at the Medina hotel in East Cowes. In 1825, the club chose a house that later became the Gloster Hotel on the Parade at Cowes as its base and Cowes' yachting fame was sealed.
