More about this scene
Twenty years before this photograph was taken, Cromer was a quiet resort, frequented only by those who sought refuge from the day trippers visiting Great Yarmouth in droves. In the 1880s, Daily Telegraph writer Clement Scott put Cromer on the map as 'Poppyland', and by 1897 a non-stop rail service took visitors from London to Cromer in 175 minutes.
