Belmont School

A Memory of Croydon.

I attended Belmont School from Nursery right through to Senior. My name was Gill Stokes (now McQuaid), I was born in 1939 and lived at 43 Headcorn Road, Thornton Heath. I know the school has been closed for years but it is great to know that there is still someone out there who remembers it. I sort of remember some of the names of the other pupils, Valerie Stebbing, Ann Stevens (we called her Moggy, don't know why!) Peter Gray, Alan Whitmarsh and my dear dear friend Jennifer Hammans, we are still friends to this day, we met at Belmont when we were 4 years old so have been friends for 71 years. It would be wonderful to see a memory on this site from someone of these people.

Comments & Feedback

I went to Belmont school from 1944 to 1950 where I changed and went to Coloma Convent in Croydon. My very bestest friend was always Gill Stokes. We were a real pair and laughed a lot and did lots of naughty things. Gill has been my very best closest friend from infant to now where we are still the same at 80. Gill lives in US now but makes no difference we still talk to each other every few days. We try to get to each other as much as possible but am not sure whether we will be able to again . I remember Mill Allen and Miss Jefferies and Mrs Hines in kindergarten with her daughter Evelyn . I also remember a girl called Gill Webb Lovely memories. I now live in Eastbourne but will never ever forget my Belmont days
