I used to walk from 13 West Avenue Wallington to Wallington County High School on Croydon road every school day in 1952-1953 past the pub on the corner of plough lane and croydon road...I think it was called the "Plough Inn" and on the west side of the road were the sandy hills where I understood then that Paper Jack had lived..I did not know at the time he died in 1935 we all knew of his presence there.
I was reading today Nov 18 2018 the online Croydon Advertiser and had done a Google search for Paper Jack Beddington Park.
The advertiser article is there now
Apparently paper Jack born 1876 died 1935 car ran over him in Waddon. There is a photo of him in the article,
If anyone knew him after 1935 could they email me at bwills04@live.com please.
I was 11 years old in 1952 when I knew about him.
I think the river Wandle ran under the road that goes to Mitcham Common just down the hill from the Plough Inn which is at the end of Plough Lane which started at Croydon Airport past the
bridge over the railway tracks and Bandon Hill Cemetary where my Dad is buried..Reginald Arthur Wills
