Wonderful Croydon!
A Memory of Croydon.
I loved to travel to Croydon from Carshalton on the Hill every month with my mother before I started school in 1960. After that it was in the school holidays with my mother and brother. I remember being on a trolley bus and seeing the sparks. Once the conductor came off the rail and a man had to get a pole to sort it out. We travelled past Croydon airport, which was then just a private airport I think. I loved to go to C and A and have dinner in Kennards. A special memory is the arcade in Kennards. Up the top was a Sikh gentleman selling lovely Indian, sparkly necklaces etc. Once the donkeys had gone, there were the sixpenny 'rides' for my brother. On Saturdays, my dad liked to explore the Swap Shop round the back of Kennards. A great place. And every group played at The Greyhound - sadly I was too young for that. Gill
