Culham, The Green c.1955

More about this scene
We are looking from the start of the High Street towards the green. A lane leads left to the church and manor house, and to the right is Burycroft, which leads to the medieval bridge and then Abingdon. The walls on the right belong to the grounds of Culham House, a large Georgian house, and the inn sign is for the Lion, out of view to the left. The rustic bench round the oak has gone. In the distance, on the west side of the green, is the village shop seen in view C205017. The pair of cottages at the far left are dated 1870.
