Growing Up In East Ham

A Memory of East Ham.

My name is Janice Harvey and we lived in East Ham, Stamford road to be exact I went to Roman Road primary and junior schools then on to Brampton Manor secondary school from 1952 to 1964. I spent a lot of time at my Nan's in Roman Road. They were really wonderful days, my friend Maureen Doogan lived in the corner shop many a day spent on the sewer bank eating Palm toffee supplied by her Mum. When I left school I worked in a hairdressers by the station on the corner of Higham road along with my aunt. My form Mistress was Mrs Williams it would be nice to find friends from 2b 3b.

Hi Janice,
I lived in Stokes Road and went to Roman Road School in 1952/53. Also remember the Queen’s Coronation celebrations and the Fancy Dress competition which was held in the corner shop! Would it be the same shop you speak of. ? I do have a couple of photos if you’re interested. Also remember the name of two school friends, Stephany Webb and Christine Pascoe who also lived in Stokes Road.
