More about this scene

Moving west from Godalming, the route passes through Elstead, a village with a medieval bridge over the River Wey and this triangular village green. This view is taken from Milford Road, with Farnham Road at the right curving past the former blacksmith's forge, which is now a cottage, The Old Forge. The chemist on the left is still a chemist, now the Elstead Pharmacy, and Challis' store is now a Spar. The oak was planted in 1897 for Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee; it still dominates the green with its seat around the base.

A Selection of Memories from Elstead

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Elstead

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

Does anyone know anything about the history of River House, cottages etc. Elstead, pre-war?
A request, can anybody remember the above mentioned establishment? It was owned by my gramsparents. Many happy times were were spent in the area. Any information would be welcome, thank you.
I am trying to find any information on a Mrs. Maud Brown who lived at Heatherbrae, Elstead, Surrey in January 1958.
