Best Memories

A Memory of Farnborough.

My name is Marilyn and I lived in Rectory road, Farnborough and enjoyed some very happy days there before moving to Australia.
I used to walk to Frimley green to visit my Aunty Rosemary and my Nanna. And in the other direction I used to walk to Salisbury Grove, Mytchitt to visit my other Nanna & Grandad.
I loved my Grandad, I can still remember sitting on his lap and being fascinated with how he lit his pipe. How it would keep going out and he would have to go through the whole process again. I loved the smell of that pipe.
They were happy days, lots of countryside, and a freedom only a child can experience.
I remember walking through the woods over a railway line to visit the Abby for Sunday service.
Lovely memories of walking through fields and never having any fears.
We had an air-raid shelter in our back garden. It was covered with grass and a beautiful Lilac tree grew near by. Our garden was narrow and long and there was a railway line over the back fence. I can still remember running down the garden to watch it pass by. Forget-me-knots and snowbells were my favourite flowers in our garden..and we would head up the road and pick wild berries for Mum, always coming home with stained fingers and mouths.of course we never eat any of the berries.LOL
Saturday mornings we would walk to Camberley to the pictures, where during intermission they played music and we could dance to the Beatles. They were such happy days.
I went to St. Patrick's Primary and can still remember there was I think a slaughter yard next door. Now I could be wrong and have my memories mixed up. But I am sure I used to hear the squealing of animals during recess.
My best friend at that school was Ninfa Fina, I think she was Italian. She lived just up the road from the School.
