Halling, The School c.1955

More about this scene
Children cross open fields to the school that was opened in 1876, and where gas lighting was replaced with electricity in 1952. The chalk scars in the landscape beyond are a reminder that this is one of the Medway- side villages that owes much to the 19th-century cement industry.
