More about this scene
Henley is a fine example of a medieval settlement developing in linear fashion along a highway, as this photograph demonstrates - though it tells only part of the story, for the High Street is a mile long. The beautiful buildings which line the street span some seven or eight centuries, and display a glorious variety of domestic architectural styles.
