More about this scene
William Hayward built the five-arched Henley Bridge in 1786 to replace an earlier wooden structure that had been swept away by floods. The cost was estimated to be about £10,000. Above the centre arches are the carved heads of Father Thames, looking downstream, and Isis, looking upstream.
