Florence Gibson Ward 1965
A Memory of Heswall.
I stayed in the Florence Gibson Ward in 1965, I remember a teacher called Mr Wrapps who I think was Welsh and had a big mustache.A boy in the bed next to mine was Tommy Butterworth. There was an Ann Lyons in the girls ward who we all adored. There was a boy called Elgin who was in a wheel chair who I guess was a more permanent resident than most of the other boys.We had a great view over the river, I am sure there was an old plane in the foreground.Although I only stayed for a number of months I often remember the faces and wounder what happened to the people I met there.I remember turning the tv on after we all had gone to bed ( all were asleep) to watch England play football, I was discovered by one of the nurses but she allowed me to watch the game with the sound very low.I think they won 3-1 and Jack Charlton scored , I was able to impress my mates there by "guessing" the score and who scored the goals!
