My Stay At Heswall

A Memory of Heswall.

I was in hospital most of my life but I remember I stayed here the longest, there was a matron who looked after us, tall with glasses, and there was a part you went in where you went to school . There was a teacher who came to our beds with work for us, also the tunnel we went to with big black pips. If anyone remembers me I am very small and had a bad back, my name is Denise, I am 48.

My memory of Heswall was in the 50's. I was a very sickly child
and I was sent to convalescence to a very large old building (not unlike the hospital) where many children like myself whose parents could not afford to send them on a holiday went to recuperate. I remember on Sundays we were given uniforms and boater hats and all walked along the road to the local church. I would love to know if anyone remembers this place and is it still standing - it was such an imposing building for a child who had come from a very cramped victorian house in Liverpool which housed seven of us (including mum and dad). I really would like to revisit this place and would be grateful if anybody knows anything about this home please.
When I was a cadet at Heswall the matrons name was miss Mair Williams she was Welsh and has only recently passed away
I was here in 1972 with really bad psoriasis. I remember being plastered in ointment and being wrapped in bandages. I was about ten. I also remember the big slide and the aeroplane we could go inside! I am writing a novel partially set here, and am looking for people who can remember details of the grounds and wards, school, village and nurses and doctors. It is amazing to see the photos here, but so sad the building was not saved ! I now live in USA, and would be delighted to hear from anyone interested.
I was on HOT ward, Hue Owen Thomas for 18 months, roughly between 1977-1999 i had 1 friend there and her name was Donna.neither of us had a good experience there but I'd love to know where she is now??
