More about this scene
The Great Ouse, navigable for over 75 miles from Bedford to the Wash, flows through Kings Lynn. The docks are situated about two miles inland at Vinegar Middle Sand, and in the late 18th century were ranked fifth most important in England. Once a whaling port, Kings Lynn in the late 19th century was handling coal from the North East and grain, and had a small inshore fishing fleet.
