Christmas Deliveries: If you placed an order on or before midday on Friday 19th December for Christmas delivery it was despatched before the Royal Mail or Parcel Force deadline and therefore should be received in time for Christmas. Orders placed after midday on Friday 19th December will be delivered in the New Year.

Piano Teacher On Newbury Road

A Memory of Kingsclere.

When this photo of Newbury Rd. was taken I was 9. I used to walk from my house on Coppice Rd. Kingsclere to Newbury Rd. where I took piano lessons. I don't remember the name of the teacher but she played the organ at St. Mary's, and she was the sister of Mrs. Fred Hopkins, who owned the store on George St. Her black spaniel always sprawled over my feet while I played. I think its the reason I always play the piano with the "loud" pedal. I have enjoyed the pictures on this site because its been over 40 years since I've seen Kingsclere. My sister, Sylvia Arbon, still lives there. I now live in Mississippi, USA

She was Miss Norah Every. She taught me as well.I was the little girl in the picture.My sister lived there until she died in April. I don't remember the spaniel.Kingsclere has grown so much since we were kids.

I lived in Swan Street for a while as a child. I too used to walk to Miss Every's house on the Newbury Road to have piano lessons. I used to carry my music case and walk all by myself even though I was only about 5 or 6. I went to the village school and attended Sunday School at St Marys. I have happy memories of Kingsclere and use Google Street View to visit the village and feel as if I am still there. My mother had a friend Margaret Ingram who lived in Union Lane and she wrote a history of Kingsclere and I still have a copy of her book.
