This photograph and photograph number L211057 illustrate the fundamental change in use for Britain's canal system during the 1950s and 60s. The earlier picture shows working boats doubled up carrying cargo from the London Basin to the Midlands. Ten years later, and the narrow boats are refitted for the holiday market and modified so as to be much easier to handle.
