More about this scene
The road to the right of the Three Cups Inn is St Mary`s Street. St Mary`s Church Hall on the right was built on the Anglo-Saxon foundations of St Mary`s of Westport Church, which was destroyed at the time of the Civil War in the 17th century, possibly by Sir William Waller. It underwent rebuilding in both the 18th and 19th centuries. Thomas Hobbes (1588-1679), the famous philosopher, was born in Malmesbury in a house near Westport church, which is no longer extant.
