More about this scene
Mercers Row leads west from the market place, with the parish church of All Saints to its left. It was largely rebuilt after a disastrous fire in 1675 which destroyed most of the town centre. On the right is 'Timothy White and Taylor', a 1950s chemists chain, once the main rival of Boots, itself seen in the distance. Boots has now moved into the Grosvenor Centre, while Timothy White and Taylor did not survive the 60s.
