Billy Bingham Eccles Parish
A Memory of Patricroft.
I lived on Ladywell flats and went to Eccles Parish with my brother George. We used to
make the ink from powder in the cellar and pour it into the inkwells in the classrooms.
The head was Billy Bingham - what a great man, he knew we were poor and had nowt
but did his best for all his pupils. Miss Thomas was our class teacher and she was lovely
and she taught us to sing in my first music lesson. We played football on Eccles rec. and
got beat 16 -0 by _ _ _ _ and custards (Eccles Grammer). We used to buy all our food in
Eccles at the co op for divi., or Redmans and we were thrashed for stealing toys from
Woolworths. I then graduated to hell, Tootal Road Sec. Mod. a nightmare with Mr. Wilkie
and Cummings & Miss Addie.
