This attractive building is reputed to be one of the finest village halls in the county. Cotswold stone tiles cover a splendid hammer beam roof made with very large oak timbers. Viscountess Barrington provided funds towards its cost, and Princess Beatrice officially opened it in 1925.

My parents have lived in 34 Charlbury Road since 1967 and I have visited them often over the years, although I have not lived in Shrivenham for any length of time since 1972. I can remember playing in the fields and making camps before the estate was built by Bradleys, a local builder. All the houses had different coloured doors and panels which was quite unusual. I believe that the photo is taken looking towards Shrivenham coming up Station Road. The next turning on the right is Charlbury Road and we moved into no 24 around 1965 - perhaps a bit before. There was still lots of building going on and I can remember getting my wellington boot stuck in the mud and falling over - did I get it when I got home!
