Evacuee In South Petherton

A Memory of South Petherton.

My Mother Joyce Ladbury was evacuated to South Petherton at the beginning of WW2 aged 9 years. She stayed with a few families but most of all loved the Gaylard family. Mrs Gaylard and twin daughters Gwen and Cis ( or Sis) not sure of spelling.My Mum loved going out with the adult daughters to deliver the mail as I think that one was the Post Mistress or had a responsibility for the Mail during the war. Mrs Gaylard kept my mums room with soft toy on the bed until the 1960s when I visited as a child. They still kept apples in the loft and you could smell the sweet smell of apples in the bedrooms. I remember going out with a small pony with Gwen, through the sheep dip and around the village. They were a lovely warm loving family of Women for my Mum to stay with during the war years, she loved them all and had such fond memories of living with the Gaylard family.
Does any one remember the family? My Mother died some years ago now and I scattered her ashes in South Petherton where she would have loved to have returned to.
