My Memory
A Memory of Stopsley.
I started Stopsley school in 1965 my first class was 3.8 I don't remember the teacher but I do remember some of kids that were ln that class. It was like being thrown into the lions den.
My family and I moved to Luton from Cornwall, because of my father's work.
We lived on the caravan park across from the school, I remember being called jippo now and then which hurt
Because we had a lovely house back in Cornwall.
I did get accepted In the end. My next class was 4 practical the teacher was a Mr Drew all boys in that class.
I really injoyed that class as we would go into a workshop and work on car engines to see how they worked.
The head master was called Dr Roy.
I left in the winter of 1967 by this time I was a 5th year we had blue bands on the cuffs of our blazers.
My family and I moved back to Cornwall, where I started an apprenticeship in an engineering factory as a fitter Turner and tool maker.
In my latter years I became a plumber and heating engineer.
I owe my hand skills to Stopsley School all the hours spent in the workshop.
Regards
