More about this scene

This same view of two Tintagel castles could be photographed today. In the foreground is a crumbling wall of the medieval Outer Ward, and on the headland behind is the monstrous hotel built by the London & South Western Railway Co at the end of the 19th century to encourage tourism.

Memories of Tintagel, Fore Street c1950

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. These memories are of Tintagel, Fore Street c.1950

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

My grandmother and all her children except my mother were evacuated to this area during and for some time after WWII.  I have a picture taken outside what I believe to be the post office.   I think perhaps it was on this street c1950.
