Jobstocks

A Memory of Walthamstow.

As a schoolboy living in Chingford from 1956 to 1964 I spent many hours gazing through the window of Jobstocks, the army surplus store in Walthamstow. Surprising how much junk one could acquire for half a crown !

Wonderful carefree sunny days when every available spare hour would be spent in Epping Forest. At that time we lived in Seymour Road which overlooked the reservoirs. On arrival in Chingford I went to Yardley Lane school, off Sewardstone Rd and from the age of eleven attended Chingford County High at Nevin Drive

Jobstocks was great. I bought all kinds of army surplus things that would cost a fortune today. I had an ex-army torch, first aid box, morse key and lots of tools. I used to look in every week to see what was on offer. I went to the Chingford County High School as well. The only bully there was the headmaster.
