The Boathouse At St. Nicholas Park, Warwick.
A Memory of Warwick.
From the late 60's to early 70's I worked as an assistant boatman at St Nicholas park Boathouse.
My duties included hiring motor boat and rowing skiffs to the public in the summer......in the winter months repairing, painting and varnishing and preparing the boats for the coming summer season.
The gaffer was was an ex WWII naval officer called Ben Masterson and he lived with his wife in St Nicholas park cottages.
The park was always a hive of activity, especially the gardeners that maintained the flora and fauna that would make up stunning flower beds and maintain the manicured lawns.
I left Warwick in 1975 to be a gas fitter during the gas conversions, and settled in Chesterfield Derbyshire, I often used to return to Warwick to relive past experiences until i left for the USA where I live now.
Warwick is a small piece of Heaven , I have lots of great memories.
