The early use of bathing machines made Weymouth a popular resort for sea bathing, and the town has never looked back. It served southern England well both as a family resort and as a centre for touring during the last century - and still does.

I was born in 1952. My Mum and Dad were brought up in Weymouth and although they moved to Gloucestershire after the war, all four grandparents remained in Weymouth. So the whole family, which included my three sisters, would catch the train from Stroud or Stonehouse and spend the entire long school holiday in Weymouth, first with one set of Grandparents in Old Castle Road, then with the other, in ...see more
In the 50's Bertram Mills Circus used to come to town and I remember there was a great procession through the streets near the harbour, this included the elephants and the prancing horses! On Saturday mornings there were rolling-skating sessions in the Sydney Hall at the bottom of Boot Hill. As a family we would holiday in Weymourth every year from about 1958-1963. We used to stay in a bed and breakfast owned by a Mrs Walkadine. As I was so young my memories revolve around the wonderful beach, the donkeys and egg sandwiches full of sand. I would love to visit the house we stayed in but my parents are both dead and I was too young to remember such things. Does anyone know of a way to find the address ...see more
