The building on the right of the bridge was called the Custom House Hotel at this date - it was later named the Dolphin. The original Custom House was in Sandgate on the other side of the road. We can see the back of the old Co-op - it is the building with the white gable end to the left. Workmen are putting the finishing touches to the new Cartridge's roof.
