More about this scene
Standing in the upper Douglas Valley, Wigan was once a market town, but by the mid 19th century it was a major centre for Lancashire's coal industry. Times change, however, and by the 1960s the town was almost ringed with derelict pits, spoil heaps, and scars from the ravages of open cast workings.
