Happy Days
A Memory of Wimbledon.
I lived with my parents in Hill Court, Wimbledon Hill Road in 1953. In 1955 I went to infant school across the common and past the Windmill. I can't remember the name of the school but I'm pretty sure it was in Camp Road. We then moved to Parkwood Road in 1955 ( Pitmans College was behind my back garden). I'm sure the road was called Park Road then and changed to Parkwood Road a couple of years later. I changed school to Pelham Road and, and I dont know why, I was then sent to school in Effra Road in 1957 and I was very happy there. I loved living in Wimbledon and my best friend was Yvonne Montaut who lived next door. My maiden name is Ferris
In 1960 we moved to Basingstoke which was a small market town. I felt deprived leaving such a bustling town in SW19 to grow up in a town in Hampshire where many people hadn't even been to London and where there was a scant bus service to nearby villages.
Over the years my family and I have returned to my beloved Wimbledon many times for trips down memory lane. Writing this, I think I'm due a trip very soon.

I lived in Compton Road, you are correct it was Park Road and then changed to Parkwood for some reason. I had a friend who lived at the Alexandra road end called Virginia Skilton and I also knew a Bobby Saxton who lived the Woodside end.
