More about this scene

Yalding stands near the confluence of the Medway, Beult and Theyse rivers, and has long been popular with the sailing fraternity. Barges plying the Medway once tied up here. The building next to the tree is the Anchor Inn: for years, the Anchor has been the destination for an annual raft race from East Peckham. Yalding was once a substantial market centre, but was desolated by the plague four times in the 16th century.

This would be between 1945 and l958. My grandmother's name ...see more
When I was 6 years old my brother Ken and I went to live at Kenward, the Dr Barnardo's home in Yalding. It was a fantastic house and I can still remember the lay out of it. We had a wonderful childhood there. We had 'aunts' in the local shops and at Christmas time all the girls would get a doll with clothes knitted by an aunt. I can't remember what the boys got. I had 'uncles' on a mine sweeper called Chiefton. I still have a ...see more
