More about this scene

Yarmouth Pier opened in 1876, and was built out of wood, a common material for the less elaborate piers. Ferries used to call, but from the 1930s they moved to a nearby slipway - the ferry to Lymington can be seen in the photograph. Excursions bring visitors to this day, with the pier benefiting from an extensive rebuild in the 1980s and 1990s.

A Selection of Memories from Yarmouth

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Yarmouth

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

Aside from teaching with a wonderful staff, brilliant headmaster, and receptive children I remember the ferry, and having fish and chips on the pier. Always a fond memory to go back to that time, as I met the love of my life, my soul mate that year!
