More about this scene
There is evidence of a Christian community in Overchurch (the original settlement, now incorporated into Upton) since AD 700- 900, and a Norman church building there survived until 1813, when it was destroyed by fire. A new church was built in the centre of Upton village at a cost of £728, which in turn was replaced by the present St Mary's in 1868. The clock on the church tower was a later addition of around 1912.
