Wendover, High Street 1901

More about this scene
This view looks down the High Street towards the clock tower. This was built as a market hall and lock up, or temporary prison, in 1842, but in 1870 the clocktower, belfry and spire were added. It is now (in 2000) a tourist information centre. The Two Brewers on the left is now (in 2000) an Italian restaurant, but the White Swan beyond is still a pub. The wall and trees on the right went for an access road to a public car park and library in the 1960s.
